Kiki Come Home is a narrative focused platformer game following the story of 28 year old investment banker Kiki. The soundtrack is best described as a blend of Ambient, Orchestral and Electronic music. This story discusses themes of existentialism, of overcoming trauma and healing and rediscovering the joy of being alive. Enjoy!

Overall, Kiki would say that she is satisfied with her life, except for one crucial detail. She feels…empty. When she comes home from work, even though she has a good job, a nice apartment and respect from her peers, she hasn’t been able to shake this feeling no matter how hard she tries.

After a usual day at her job, she once again comes home with a sense of dread, a sadness that usually comes when she is left with nothing to but to face her own emptiness. Out of boredom, she starts to reorganize her closet, when out of the corner of her eye, she spots something that she had nearly forgotten about. Her old sketchbooks. “It's been so long, I almost forgot that I used to draw”. “Why did I ever stop doing this, I used to love doing it so m—” And as suddenly as those fond memories came back, Kiki is sucked into the world of her old sketchbook where she meets with herself, but 20 years younger.

Join Kiki as she rediscovers the magic of pure, uninhibited joy while confronting the events in her life that compounded and weighed on her over the years, ultimately bestowing her with this feeling of emptiness.

Tides of Time:

Take a breath. That is the first lesson on the expedition that is Kiki Come Home. The gentle harp eases you into the game, leading you into the calm ambience of the world we'll come to know in this game. Enjoy your adventure, and remember to take it easy.

Revival of Youth:

This is the moment where Kiki first realizes just how empty she has really felt. She remembers just how limitless and creative she felt as a kid, and who better to remind her of this than herself as a child. Take in the beautiful artwork and landscape of this world as you experience this world for the first time alongside our heroine.

Almost Enough:

This is the theme that plays when Kiki confronts what has been holding her back this entire time. Crying in her room, Kiki talks to her 18 year old self. Kiki remembers this moment, it was right after her high school graduation. She had done everything for her family. She gave up art like they suggested because it would never make any money and went for the "safer" bet in her life. She waited eargely for the day when her parents would tell her how proud they are of her, but that day never came. She has spent her life searching for that validation, that one golden accomplishment that would finally set her free, make her family proud. One day, she will finally be done. She is almost enough.

I see it now:

Kiki has healed. She sees now that life was never about climbing any sort of ladder, that life is not a quest to be conquered, a treasure to be found. It took a magical journey into the world of her coloring book to tell her that she was enough the whole time. She was worthy simply because she was. It didn't matter how high she rose, at the end of this adventure, she realizes that she had everything she needed the whole time. Kiki now knows that life is meant to be enjoyed as a song and she was supposed to simply enjoy the music as it plays.

(I write this as I listen! I used the YouTube video so I can't be certain which track is which!)

Starts off so beautiful. The composition here is wonderful. All the instruments fit together so well. And that little texture is wonderful.

2nd part - A little granular feeling! All the chirping of those wind instruments (forgive me.. that's oboe?) and the little clinking texture.. then the bass kicks in. What a full and textural track!

3rd part - A synth intro! The granular textures are all over the place with this one! So much ear candy! I love those little vocal things too! The piano sweeps are a joy!

4th part - Whistly intro! Love those weak high notes on the piano. Then - WOW!! The big soundscape that follows.. it's beautiful!! It feels grand! Beautiful!!

This is one of those submissions where I seriously hope you reach the top 20 :)
